Three school nurses are employed by the Department of Education and Training and is based at Caboolture Special School to enable students with complex health needs to attend school. The school nurses also provides an outreach service to other state schools in the North coast region.
The school nurses develop health plans and provides support and training for school staff where there are students requiring routine and/or emergency health needs while at school, e.g. gastrostomy tube feeding, emergency medication for asthma, diabetes, epilepsy or anaphylaxis.
Any student who presents with health concerns can be referred by teachers, parents/carers or therapists.
