Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology provide services to this school, as well as other state schools in the district.
Physiotherapy
Department of Education and Training Physiotherapists visit many schools across the North Coast region to assist teaching staff and students with special needs. The physiotherapists interact with many students (Prep to Year 12), parents/carers and school staff in a range of state schools.
Departmental physiotherapy services may be requested by parents/carers through class teachers and are provided on a priority basis.
Occupational therapy
Departmental occupational therapists visit many schools across the North Coast region to assist teaching staff, parents/carers and students with special needs. They see students with a variety of disabilities, ranging in age from early prep to late teenage years.
Occupational therapists help people to manage their life roles more effectively. At school your child’s life role is that of a student. We can assist them to be a more successful student by adjustments to their environment, help to acquire skills or provision of devices. Education and training occupational therapy services are requested through the class teacher and support the classroom programmes. Because of the large numbers of students we support we need to prioritise our service.
Speech language pathology
Department of Education and Training speech language pathologists are given a specific allocation of schools (Prep – 12) to provide support to students on a regular basis.
Speech–language therapy services support students’ educational outcomes by focusing on the essential foundation areas of language, speech, voice, fluency, mealtime management and oro-motor functioning, particularly for those students with special needs in communication. Students presenting with concerns related to communication, mealtimes and/or learning can be referred to speech language therapy services. If the student is prioritised for speech and/or language therapy services, a speech language pathology referral form is completed by the teacher for the parent to sign. Speech language therapy services are provided on a priority basis.
