What is Curriculum?


Curriculum is all the planned learning offered and enacted by a school. It is dynamic and encompasses:
  • The learning environment.
  • Resources.
  • Teaching approaches and strategies.
  • Assessment programs and methods.
  • The values and ethos of the school.
  • The relationships and behaviours among students and teachers.

These are all interconnected and provide the experiences that contribute to student learning. Students at Caboolture Special School progress through our school’s equity continuum from Access, through Engagement to Pathways as depicted in the model below.


Our curriculum overview


Students at Caboolture Special School are engaged in the essential learnings (Education Queensland’s mandated curriculum) through their participation in the rich tasks curriculum. Literacy and numeracy activities are embedded in these units while a range of specialist programs and teaching methods and strategies are used to support the learning process.
The diagram below shows the relationship between a range of programs that influence the school curriculum. As students move through the junior, middle and senior phases of learning the focus of the curriculum shifts from access to engagement through to pathways.


Policies guiding our curriculum


At Caboolture Special School we provide a curriculum to:
  • Maximise capacity of all students.
  • Provide multiple opportunities for all students to achieve Queensland Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCARF).
  • Essential learnings and standards.
  • Achieve Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA), including vocational qualifications.
  • Exit from schooling with the capabilities and values to be active and responsible citizens.

 At Caboolture Special School we: 

  • Monitor and assess individual student achievement through internal and external moderation processes to support teachers in making consistent judgements.
  • Implement state wide certification procedures through Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) registration.
  • Regularly report relevant information to parents on student achievement and learning through:
    • a collaborative meeting to implement the individual education plan/Senior Education and Training (IEP/SET) plan process in terms 1 and 3
    • a formal report to parents using a 5 point scale and ‘plain English’ in terms 2 and 4.

Based on Department of Education Training, P-12 curriculum framework
